How to Read a COA for THC Gummies & Mini Syrups

A Certificate of Analysis, or COA, is your window into the safety, potency, and quality of a cannabis product. It’s a third-party lab report that verifies what’s in your THC gummies, mini syrups, or pre-rolls. At WTF, we believe in 100% transparency, which is why all our products have a QR code linking directly to their COA. In this guide, we’ll teach you how to read a COA like a pro.

Why is a COA Important?

A COA is your assurance that a product is:

  • Safe: Free from harmful contaminants like pesticides, heavy metals, and residual solvents.
  • Potent: Contains the amount of cannabinoids (like THC and CBD) that is advertised on the label.
  • Legal: Compliant with federal law, meaning it contains no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight.

Never purchase a cannabis product that doesn’t have an easily accessible, up-to-date COA from a reputable, accredited lab.

Key Sections of a Certificate of Analysis

A COA can look intimidating, but it’s easy to understand once you know what to look for. Here are the most important sections:

1. Header Information

This section contains the basic details of the report:

  • Lab Name: The name of the third-party laboratory that performed the test.
  • Client/Brand Name: The name of the company that ordered the test (e.g., WTF | Welcome To Florida).
  • Product Name: The specific product that was tested.
  • Batch Number: A unique identifier that links the report to a specific batch of products.
  • Date of Report: The date the analysis was completed.

2. Cannabinoid Profile (Potency)

This is the most crucial section for most consumers. It tells you the concentration of various cannabinoids in the product.

Cannabinoid What It Is
Delta-9 THC The primary psychoactive compound. This must be ≤ 0.3% for legality.
THC-A The non-psychoactive precursor to THC. It converts to THC when heated.
CBD A non-psychoactive cannabinoid known for its wellness benefits.
CBN A minor cannabinoid often associated with sedative effects.
CBG Another minor cannabinoid with potential therapeutic benefits.
Total THC The total potential THC in the product (usually calculated as (THC-A * 0.877) + Delta-9 THC).

Look for the results in both percentage (%) and milligrams per gram (mg/g). This will confirm that you’re getting the potency you paid for.

3. Safety & Purity Analysis

This section ensures the product is free from harmful contaminants. A comprehensive COA will include tests for:

  • Pesticides: Checks for the presence of harmful agricultural chemicals.
  • Heavy Metals: Looks for toxic metals like lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium.
  • Residual Solvents: Ensures that no harmful solvents used during the extraction process remain in the final product.
  • Microbials: Tests for bacteria, mold, and yeast to ensure the product is safe for consumption.
  • Mycotoxins: Screens for toxic substances produced by mold.

For each test, the report should show a result of “Pass” or “ND” (Not Detected).

How to Access a COA
